i love a book that pulls me in,
in to a story full of family dynamics
and secrets
and small town life...
small town life i totally get.
:)
i always enjoy anna quindlen's writing style
and this did not disappoint.
i loved the main character mimi
but i also adored her aunt in the attic room
and the relationship between her mom
and her sister.
pick it up...it's worth a read!

ok...and sidenote....could i be any more excited
that ken follett has written a THIRD BOOK to the
pillars of the earth series!?!?!?! (and the answer
is no if you were wondering...heh)
so...this is not how i usually do my
"whatcha readin'?"
blog posts.
usually i
FINISH
the book before i
talk about it.
and i blog about the books
i have read
in the order that i have read them.
but i have got to tell you...
i am reading a book right now
that i had never heard of...
it was an e book through my library
and so i put myself on the wait list
and then it came
so i thought
well...i'll give it a try...
and i am flabbergasted dumbfounded in love hook line and sinker.
it's the kind of book
that i am about halfway in
and i can't wait to see what happens
but i know that every page i turn
brings me closer to the end
and i don't want it to end
and i really want to know what happens
but at the same time
the writing is so beautiful
and the turns of phrase so perfectly odd
that i also want to go back to the
beginning
and reread it again...
slower this time
so that i can really absorb it.
it's a debut book called himself from jess kidd
and i'm telling you
i am totally crushing on this right now.
to the point that if you saw me
walking home today
staring at my phone
THE WHOLE WALK HOME
it's because i was reading that book
on my phone....crossing roads
waiting at intersections
reading that book and completely lost in the story...
i picked this up on a whim...
i really knew nothing about it.
but the title was interesting
and i'm always drawn in by anything
that might be reminiscent of fairy tales
which this book was
in a very, very loose sense.
i enjoyed her writing
and the little twists she wove in
along the way.
i have to admit there were times that
i felt a little confused
or lost...
and found it difficult
to pick up the thread of the story again
but sometimes,
i think that might be my own fault
for reading a book
in dribs and drabs
of time
instead of rich big open blocks
of focused time.
i did enjoy this though and would definitely
give her other books a try though.

it's no secret...
i adore alice hoffman.
this is the 2nd of 3 books
i read of hers
just this year...
just this year SO FAR.
i suspect there will be more.
and
it's also no secret
that i love fairy tales
if you know me at all...
there are books of fairy tales
all through my house.
so can you imagine how happy
it makes me when one of my
favorite writers
references fairy tales
with words that sound like music
and poems and whispered secrets.
once again, she did not disappoint.
