whatcha readin'? 2020 {book 11::goal 30}

I have had a stack of books
by my “reading chair”
for a long time now.

And for a while, it just kept growing,
never shrinking.
But since COVID-19, I have been
just picking up the next book
in the pile
and reading it next.

And the pile is shrinking…
(not gonna lie, that makes me a little anxious…
I’m a bit of a hoarder).

The Farm
was the next on the list.
I had no clue what it was about.
It was interesting….I didn’t mind it…
I wanted to see what happened.
It felt a little like a “handmaid’s tale”
set in today’s time
and less forced…but equally disturbing.

(and it’s funny, I realized I had actually taken
a photo of this book while documenting
that I actually drink tea
and not just diet coke…heehee)

whatcha readin'? 2020 {book 10::goal 30}

I think I remember there being a lot
of hype around this book
when it first came out.

And rightly so.

This book grabbed me right away.
Written from the point of view
of a 5 year old little girl
who is camping with her parents & little brother
when a bear attacks their campsite
and how she deals with everything that ensues,
it is both riveting and hard to read in places…
she captures the point of view and voice
of a 5 year old very well…

I pretty much read the book in 2 days…
it was so hard to put down.

this was a book
i came across in a book sale
and picked it up
without reading
the back of it
as i was drawn
immediately
to the cover
and the title
which
sounded like poetry
to me.

and i was not disappointed.

this story kept me riveted
right from the beginning…
i fell in love with the characters…
and it made me think
about memory and the huge part
it plays in our lives…

i’m happy i took a chance on this one.

Honestly…I thought I was going to like this
a lot more
than I actually did.

I think my problem is not
with this book or the writing…
I have just never been great with short stories,
even fairy tales.

I need more. I need to feel like
I know the characters,
I need a deeper connection.

But…it was interesting…
it just took me a long time to finish it.
I would just pick it up in spurts…
I liked the notes that he added at the
end of the fairy tales though…

whatcha readin'? 2020 {book 7::goal 30}

I absolutely loved this book.

It was the perfect escape.
It made me laugh…and think…and cry just a little bit
both sad & happy tears.

I fell in love with all the characters.
I felt like I could only describe it using words like
lovely and
delightful
which are not my usual words…haha.

I did not want it to end…I want to go to Guernsey…
I want to meet everyone…
I just don’t really want to try potato peel pie…
:)

Note: I was excited to watch the movie which I have seen
floating by on Netflix but I am not sure it
will make me as happy as the book did….
