whatcha readin'? {goal 45 - books 4-6}

April 21, 2025 Arlene Giddings

Here are 3 books that I finished…
Also, I am not just at 6 books so far,
but didn’t want to overwhelm myself
writing about so many books at once.
My brain can’t take it.

OUTLIVE - Peter Attia
👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️ this gets a 5 star rating.
It took me a while to read as it was very heavy
in technical/health details
but I kind of love that sort of thing.
I feel like I may need to reread it
in order to really grasp it
and am very interested now in his podcasts
and newsletters, etc.
If you are interested in longevity,
and especially in making sure the quality of your years
matches the number of years you live,
then you might like this one too!

I LET YOU GO - Clare MacIntosh
❤️❤️❤️❤️
The best part of this book is that
I really wasn’t expected to love it.
It kept me drawn in and caught me
by surprise a number of times.
Good quick page turner!

THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE - VE Schwab
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I really loved this book.
The idea just kept staying with me for days…
the concept, I just kept mulling it over
and trying to imagine it,
trying to make sense of how it would work.
I will say (& this is not a spoiler)
but I didn’t love the ending and woke
up in the middle of the night after reading it
thinking no…wait…I HATE that ending.
It wasn’t mere dislike.
😆

whatcha readin'? {goal 45 - books 1-3}

February 10, 2025 Arlene Giddings

I went through a bit of a
reading slump
in January…
well….let’s be honest…
I went through a bit of a
life slump
in January in some ways.

Winter can do that to a person.

3 books complete in January…
one was an audio book:

  1. When the Body Says No - Gabor Mate
    ♥♥♥
To be honest, this was not really what I thought
it was going to be…or maybe
what I wanted it to be.
I wanted reassurance that yes, stress can cause these things
but if you do these things, you can avoid the diseases
    that stress may cause….
but instead the book caused me stress
because they seemed to indicate that
you could have had stresses outside of your control
    AS A CHILD
THAT YOU MAY NOT EVEN BE AWARE OF
    that may have already
started you down the path to disease.
How is that fair or reasonable??? Sigh.

  2. Fitter, Calmer, Stronger - Ellie Goulding
    ♥♥♥ - audiobook
    This was ok…nothing really revolutionary.
Apparently she is a famous musician
but….I didn’t know that when I picked the book. 🤷‍♀️

(oh wait…she did this song! I didn’t know that.)

  3. Holiday Romance - Catherine Walsh
    ♥♥♥♥
I liked this more than I had expected to.
A fun rom-com kinda lighthearted book.

NEXT UP: Outlive (Peter Attia); I Let You Go (Clare MacIntosh) and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (VE Schwab) (and maybe even more if my reading slump is really over!! :)

I am hitting that time of the year
again when I have gotten
incredibly behind
in posting
what I have finished reading
so here is a July round up.

July was a pretty big book month
for me…and oddly enough,
it was a big physical book month for me.
But maybe that’s not that odd.

Summer is when I like to be outside
and there is just something
about having an actual
book
in my hands
at the beach or
in the hammock and on the swing
or in the park.

15. THE EMBROIDERED BOOK - KATE HEARTFIELD
♥♥♥♥♥ out of 5 ♥’s
It’s not often that I remember a book
after finishing it,
but this one stuck with me.
It’s a bit of a historical story but
with some magic woven in…
I absolutely loved this book.
I am not going to lie…I bought it based
on the beautiful cover alone
but this time, that worked out in my favor.

16. THE GHOST WOODS - CJ COOKE
♥♥♥♥♥ out of 5 ♥’s
A gothic thriller is not my typical pick
and I would be lying
if I said that the pretty cover didn’t have
something to with me
picking this to read.
The only note I had on it
was that I finished it in 2 days
so obviously,
it grabbed my attention.

17. EVERYONE HERE IS LYING - SHARI LAPEGNA
♥♥♥♥ out of 5 ♥’s
My notes:
'twisty turns and a fast read :)'

18. MODERN DRAWING - CHELSEA WARD
♥♥♥♥ out of 5 ♥’s
My notes:
'Did a lot of exercises in it. Pretty fun :)'

19. THE DROWNING WOMAN - ROBYN HARDING
♥♥♥♥ out of 5 ♥’s
Very twisty and fast paced
with lots of unexpected surprises.

20. DEAR EVAN HANSEN - VAL EMMICH
♥♥♥♥♥ out of 5 ♥’s
When I started this, I didn’t realize that
it was a novelization of a musical.
I had actually never heard of that before.
But I enjoyed the read…
not sure if I would say the same
had I seen the musical first but
I didn’t…so….it is what it is. :)
But also now that I watched this trailer,
I NEED to watch this.
😍

21. YOU, ME AND THE SEA - MEG DONOHUE
♥♥♥♥♥ out of 5 ♥’s
My notes:
'The writing in this book made me feel wordy.'

and that takes me to the end of July!
:)

whatcha readin'? {goal 41::book 14}

September 30, 2024 Arlene Giddings

I want Emily Henry
to be my friend.
I want to go for coffee with her
and share funny texts
and talk about
where to find the best
doughnuts
(cause she loves doughnuts too)
(and I…well….I seriously love her books).

I was not prepared to love
Emily Henry.
But I do.

I love her writing and her characters
and I completely fell in love with
Miles Novak
so I think that’s proof that
her characters feel very
real
to me.

I have read a number of her books now…
but I have to say that I kind of
think this is my current favorite.
And not just because of my crush
on Miles Novak.
Heh.
