whatcha readin'? {goal 40::book 5}

April 3, 2023 Arlene Giddings

I really had no idea
what to expect when I started
this book…
and I don’t want to say
very much here because
I don’t want to give anything away
but, if you are NOT like me,
you might actually read
what a book is about before
purchasing
literally based
only on the cover
which I liked so much
I doodled it in my sketchbook.

All I can tell you
is that
the writing was beautiful
and that’s what kept me going
even though
I spent a lot of time
saying what the eff is going on?
wait. what?
but didn’t she just?
is that the same person that just?
I don’t understand.

And eventually it made sense
to some degree
but required a lot of thought
which I don’t always want to do
when I pick up a book
(which is apparent by the number of YA romance I read)…

This book got great reviews
and someone wrote that once you finish it
you should read it a second time…
and that feels like it might be true.
That I would absorb much more
and curse much less.

I would read her again though.
The writing really was beautiful
and I was fully invested in the characters
and I like that feeling.

whatcha readin'? {goal 40::book 4}

March 20, 2023 Arlene Giddings

And yes, I am back to the YA
side of the fence…
reconnecting with my inner 13 year old
who can now
READ ANYTHING SHE WANTS
and doesn’t have to rely on
what is only available in the
MCS library OR
the bookmobile
especially after being banned
from both
for not returning books
(I have good intentions but
a long history of never returning a book…
don’t lend me any…heh…
plus…shhhhhhh, don’t tell anyone but…
I fold the corners…)

Sidenote…thinking about this
really makes me wanna read all the
Sweet Valley High books that I
missed out on back then. Heh.

So anyway…
what can I say about this?
It was a fun, feel good
quick read that made me happy.

If you like feel good make you happy books
that don’t require a lot of thinking,
then you should read it too! :)
I’d lend you my copy but I already lost it
plus…you know….the pages are all bent and foldy….

whatcha readin - 2023 {goal 40 - book 2 and 3...kinda}

March 13, 2023 Arlene Giddings

Not gonna lie
so far 2023 has been a rough year
for me
as far as reading goes.

First I struggled with the
extremely annoying not scary at all
Frankenstein.

And then I just couldn’t seem to settle.
It’s just been slow going…
I blame my daughter and that we
started watching Sons of Anarchy and
even though I say JUST ONE
every night,
it is never
JUST ONE.

(and Jax. I blame the cuteness of Jax. Heh)

So anywayyyyyyyyyyyyy,
I read The House in the Pines
but for the moment my opinion must
remain classified information
because I read it as part of a
very small teeny tiny book club
and I don’t want to give anything away.

So instead, we’ll skip to
The Art of Racing in the Rain
which so many people told me to read and
raved about it and I was dubious
cause it was the story from the point of view
of a dog
and I was kinda like well….I mean….
how good could that be?

So frigging good.

Note I wrote while reading this book:
"For a little bit I kinda hated this story
because it was so good
and broke my heart so much.”

So there you go.
Those who told me to read this were right to do so.
And now I have become one of those people
telling YOU go read it.
(and I have a copy to trade or sell if you want)
:)

whatcha readin - 2023 {goal 40::book 1}

February 13, 2023 Arlene Giddings

I just realized that I chose
to go with 40 books for a goal this year.
40.
FORTY.
And we are mid February and I have finished
1.
One book.

I blame Frankenstein.

I hated this book
with every fiber of my being.
It was boring and annoying
and blah and boring and
ohmygawd it was SO bloody boring…
actually….
not even bloody, not scary…
just
boring.

So anyway…I finished it
and I read a classic this year
which I had planned to read more of
but now I’m not so sure.
Heh.

Frigging Frankenstein.

0 ♥ out of 5 ♥
that’s how much I hated this book.

*Normally I would tell you what’s up next
but I am currently reading 3 books so I’m not sure
which one will finish first…. :)
