whatcha readin'? {2018::book 17 - goal 24}

June 25, 2018 Arlene Giddings

I have had this book
on my list of "books to read"
forever.

I have finally done it.

The book is heartbreaking and real.
Raw and poignant and brutally sharp.
There were many times that I found myself
identifying completely with her reasoning...
how in grief, you bargain, you deny, you pretend.
Or at least, I know that I have done so.

It's a story about loss but it's
also a story of coming back from that...
especially when you don't think you will ever
come out the other side...
of fighting your way through the emptiness.

I am so glad that this one finally made it
to the top of my reading pile.

whatcha readin'? {2018::book 16 - goal 24}

First of all...I did not realize that
this was Emma Donoghue's ninth novel.
I had thought that Room was novel
number one for her, for some reason,
otherwise I would have looked for more from her
earlier than this as I had really enjoyed Room.

The Wonder was very intriguing...
set in 1859 in Ireland,
about a nurse sent to "watch" a young girl
to see if she is really and truly
living without eating any food.

I love her style of writing and
the story was very interesting...
I would definitely recommend this one
and will be looking for more books by her!

i am just going to say
this
is not my kind of book.

if you loved it
and it changed your life,
i am totally happy for you!

whatcha readin'? {2018::book 14 - goal 24}

I have had this book
on my list for a long time
and have finally read it.

I am not going to lie.
It was not a quick read.
It was not an easy read.
It was sad and scary and infuriating
and, at times, incomprehensible
that such things are really going on
in this world
in this day...

But it was also inspiring
and interesting and poignant.

It was interesting to see the parallels
drawn between fiction and life,
life as fiction....wishing fiction to be life...
as helpless as I felt reading it,
I also felt amazed by the author's tenacity
and bravery.

It wasn't quick
and it wasn't easy
but
it should be read.

whatcha readin'? {2018::book 13 - goal 24}

May 28, 2018 Arlene Giddings

a while ago,
i told you about a book called
little fires everywhere.

(i actually might have
raved about it...
i loved that book!)

well.  this is by the same author
and it did not disappoint.

everything i never told you
is actually her 1st novel
but i read them backwards...but
it's ok because they are not connected.

my only regret about this book
is that there are no more!
i want to read more by this author!!

family drama, stories within stories,
layers and possibilities and what ifs...
and i love her writing voice...carried me
through the story effortlessly.
