the weekend of planes...

August 26, 2018 Arlene Giddings

I don't think it is a secret
that I
like the air show.

I go every time it comes to Summerside.

And, by "go", I mean, I don't just buy a ticket
and go one day...
on Friday, I drive around until I can find somewhere
to sit and watch them and practice
(which means sitting in a field from about 10:30
until 4:00 in order to see anything...)

Then, on Saturday,  I make my son drive around
with me until we find a spot to watch them from...
this year, we found a great spot
but unfortunately, the CF18 was down for repair
but we did get to see the Snowbirds!

But then on Sunday, I go for the whole day.
18 came with me today and we got to see my brothers for a bit, too.
It was a beautiful day with blue skies
and fluffy white clouds...
and the CF18 was all fixed!!!!

PLUS I got to sit in the Hornet.
Completely stationary but...still!!!!
I was pretty excited...
even if I felt a little silly being the only grown up
in a group of 5-7 year olds waiting to get a chance
to sit in a stationary plane
and pretend they were driving it
(don't judge me...the little kids already did that.)

All in all....
it was a VERY successful weekend.

I can't wait for next time!

life's beachy...(that's a saying, right?)

August 23, 2018 Arlene Giddings

Every summer, I try to visit different beaches,
along with all of my old favorites....
namely Union Corner and Thunder Cover.

I took a drive out to Belmont though this year
and was pleasantly surprised.
There was almost no one else there
and if there is anything my introverted little self loves...
it's an empty beach.

One side was...well...ok....but the other side...
cliffs and rocks and still silent water.
I will totally go back there again next summer.

under the bridge...

August 19, 2018 Arlene Giddings

Earlier in the summer
(before the accident that put the
l'il hyundai accent out of commission),
I took a little adventure drive
out through Borden...
and realized
that you can go
right under the
Confederation Bridge!

You have to climb down on
some pretty big rocks
but I have seriously always loved doing that anyway.

It did freak me out
just a teensy-tiny bit
when I got under there
and could hear
the cars and trucks and campers
and transfer trucks
shaking and rumbling right over top of me...
plus
I can't swim
so I was also very cautious not to drown
or drop my camera...

So fun though!  :)
Oh....and I had taken some from a nearby beach, too!

awwwwww....i kinda miss the ferries...

whatcha readin'? {book 20::goal 24}

August 13, 2018 Arlene Giddings

Oh.....this book.

I had no idea what this was about...I just picked it up
because I like the cover
and honestly...
I liked the title, too.

I imagined it to be about a little girl
in a make believe world of
cotton candy, carnival horses and
a battle between good and evil
with frogs that turned into princes
and mushrooms that made you taller.

But...that's not what it was about.
At all.

Which was totally ok!
Because what it was about was so fast paced
and terrifying and I couldn't turn the pages
fast enough....

I'm not going to tell you what it's about.

This is not that kind of review.

This is an "I frigging loved this book"
kind of review.

Oh.  But I will say that I loved Lincoln.
I loved how she captured his voice
and all the facets of a mother's love...
how it can cover pride and panic and exasperation and
worry and fear and gratitude all in any number of breaths...

This was a good one.
