a jar of possibilities & chance...

May 14, 2024 Arlene Giddings

I had an idea.
An idea that is giving me
the butterflies
in my belly.
I have been
thinking about it
all day.
I am excited about it.

This is a good feeling.

3 jars.
1 jar of challenges
(this includes things like
drawing, core exercises, trying new recipes,
capturing sunsets)
1 jar of time frames
(this includes slips of paper
that say 5 days or 7 days or 30 days
or even one that says
ONE YEAR)
(not gonna lie, I kinda hope I
don’t get core exercises for THAT one, heh)
1 jar of REWARDS
(cause you know I love
positive reinforcement)
(this includes stickers, socks, mr freezies, etc).

The game is
I pick one slip from each jar
and DO IT.
and if I do it for the full time frame,
I get the REWARD.
(did I mention positive reinforcement?)

I am super duper excited about this.

Here is my first challenge:

CHALLENGE: PHOTO - PERSPECTIVE
TIMEFRAME: A WEEK (this gives me leeway to choose if I want to do it for 5 days or 7 depending on how much fun I am having)
REWARD: SOCKS (& yes, new socks are soooo fun!)

then I will pick a place
to share the results…
probably Instagram; maybe Facebook;
possibly here sometimes…

and here’s the first one!

for me, perspective as a photo challenge
is all about changing the angle
that I would normally look at something from…
getting a new perspective.

I am super excited about this.
I feel like it is the perfect way
to push me out of my little
creative rut.

Feel free to play along!
or give me suggestions for
challenges….or rewards…
(cause…positive reinforcement….heh)

sundays are for naps & poems...& possibly doughnuts

April 14, 2024 Arlene Giddings

april is
national poetry month.
i have been thinking
about it a lot
but not really doing
anything about it…
and today i decided
it was time.

i looked back at some
old blog entries
from when
poetry thursday
used to be
a regular bloggy kinda thing
and it was funny
that the first one i read
mentioned a herd of turtles
(and if you know me,
you know that also
means my dad.) ♥

in typical geeky girl fashion
i am made a list of
things i might like to do
this month
in honor of poetry…
and also have started making
a list of poets
i would like to check out.

*sidenote: I really feel
like the artist way book readings
and doing the morning pages
might be really working….
that and the change in weather.
that always gets me fired up with new ideas.

♥

so expect to see more about poetry
the rest of this month over here.

(also i just renewed payment for this site
which always reminds me that
I NEED TO USE IT MORE). heh.

friday i'm in love....

April 12, 2024 Arlene Giddings

It’s Friday…
the sun was actually out
for a bit of the day
along with a little bit of rain.
I love how my front lawn
is full of these little
purple flowers
(probably because the lawn is
well fertilized courtesy of Pugsley)….
seeing them pop up
just makes me happy.

One thing I love right now
is that I spent day with my mom
and we did some shopping
and had burger love
with one of my brothers
at the starlite diner
(which was ok but I’m not really a burger-girl soooo
don’t take my review too seriously)

Another thing I love
are these dollar store journals.
And when I love something,
I buy it in multiples…
as evidenced here.
😊

♥ these photos of deserted places….ohhhhh.

♥ this album that I came across by accident

😍😍And that THIS is HAPPENING!!!!!

I hope that you are having a
fantastic friday full
of fun and french fries and
festivities (I struggled on the
last f word….)
😊

whatcha readin'? {goal 41::book 5 & 6}

April 8, 2024 Arlene Giddings

I have been reading
but like
literally
everything else
in my life,
it feels scattery and all over the place.

But I do have 2 to add to the
slowly growing list.

{also, dear reader (IYKYK)
i will NOT be continuing with Jane Eyre
as I have decided that I absolutely
LOATHE it and will not be forcing myself
to read it….I learned from my
Frankenstein experience last year
that it’s ok to just say…nope. This is not for me.
}

The View Was Exhausting ♥♥♥ out of 5
I did like this book…the characters
were likeable…the story made
me wonder how plausible
yet at the same time, it
was interesting to see how a
public relationship may actually
be a PR diversion tactic
which I guess I knew but
it was interesting to see how it might
play out. I did like Leo’s character a lot
and I am kind of a sucker for
enemies-turned-lovers kinda trope
so there was that.

I debated even sharing this one but
out of embarrassment but in the end,
it is what it is.
I guiltily read it,
I guiltily enjoyed it.
Heh.
And that’s probably all I will say about it.
It was exactly what it was meant to be.

NEXT UP:: FAYNE - ANN-MARIE MACDONALD

The Artist Way - Group Reading (& other things)....

April 7, 2024 Arlene Giddings

I came across an opportunity
to be part of a group working though
the Artist Way book by Julia Cameron
online (with a couple in person meetings as well)
& immediately said hell yes, pick me! pick me!

{i am not going to lie, this has been a
rough fall-winter in the big orange house
for many reasons. So this felt like a
chance to try to push myself forward.}

I was happily successful at getting a spot in the group
and started off strong with morning pages
and saying weird yet hopefully endearing things
in the group chat.

And then I fell off the path a bit.

{did I mention this winter has been a struggle?}

Headaches and burn out, grief and uncertainty,
stress and sump pumps…my focus blurred.

But now I am back on the path…moving forward…
baby steps….knowing it’s ok if I falter again.

If you have never done the Artist Way book before,
it really is a catalyst for creative momentum…
this is my 3rd time doing the book.
The first time I did it, I really moved forward.
But I was new to it all so everything felt
fresh and exciting, full of possibility.
It was when I really delved into photography.
I was new and open and full of butterflies in my belly.

This go-round…I am uncertain.
I am not sure what my momentum needs to be about.
I have a lot of ideas but I am spinning my wheels
looking for something to grab hold, to take traction,
to bite into the pavement.

And so, really, it’s a perfect time to do this book.
To find clarity. To try to sort through the ball of yarn
and find the starting point again….and to work
out the knots and the tangles in the brambles of my brain.

A weekly online group for Island artists and creators working in any medium at any stage is being offered by CreativePEI as a Well-Being Initiative. You can find out more about it here.
