it's the most wonderful time of the year...

today could not have been
a better day...
picked up my girl in moncton yesterday
and took her home...
Christmas Eve with carols and
melted popsicles in a glass of sprite
(which is sooooo good by the way)...
family and friends and lots of laughter.

the yearly tradition of
singing "total eclipse of the heart"
at the top of our lungs
in the car.

acknowledging that our kids are getting older
and christmas traditions
will shift a little
but that's ok...we just have to
adapt and overcome...
so this morning we ate breakfast
BEFORE presents
and it was fun to torture them and make them
wait just a little bit longer
to dive into stockings and santa presents...
and yeah...maybe it's not every year
that we have to trek out to the shop
to see where santa left
our girl a living room couch & chair
and a kitchen table and chairs...
and where he left our boy
a transmission
(that's what he wanted...really...weirdest christmas ever)...
but it was so totally worth it.

an hour long nap on the couch.

christmas presents and dinner at my mom and dad's...
an exciting game of minion "pie in the face"...
dart guns and wrestling matches,
tickle fights and so much laughing...
hugs and teasing and telling stories...

coming home to a beautiful wreck of a living room...
tired and full and so content.
pajamas,
after eights,
cold can of diet coke,
my new slippers,
a fuzzy blanket and a movie
for us both to fall asleep to...

today could not have been a better day.

now bring on 2017!
 

tuesday truths...

the truth is
i'm kind of ready
to let go of 2016...

bring on 2017 already...i'm ready.

whatcha readin'? {2016::book 17 - goal 12}

i loved this book.
sad and complicated elf...
honest and heartbroken yoli...
one wants desperately to die,
the other wants desperately for her sister
to want to live.

can you make someone want to live...
i'm not so sure
and i can't imagine what that must feel like,
on either side of the coin...
to be the one whose only option seems to be death...

or to know with all certainty that someone you
love most in world...cannot bear to be
in the world anymore.

but this book gives you a glimpse into what that must be like.
painful and sad, sharp and funny...
i loved this book.

whatcha readin'? {2016::book 16 - goal 12}

it has been a long time
since i have read a stephen king book.

i used to read him all the time
re-reading favorites,
excited when a new one came out
to add to my collection.

which is weird because
i don't do
horror...or scary...or evil clowns and creepy hotels,
crimson kings and serial killers...

but i was always drawn in
by the way he could do
conversation...
and his turn of phrase...
it's just comes across so natural and real.

i did enjoy this book although
it took me a long time to read it.
it involves time travel and assignations
love and love thwarted...
it was well worth the time it took me to finish it.

i was really excited to see the mini-series come out
but after the first episode
i was so totally stressed out by how many things
they either changed
or no longer seemed to exist
that i just couldn't watch anymore.

i may try it again sometime...
when the book is not quite so fresh in my mind.

friday i'm in love...

i have been on an editing binge since last weekend...
it's felt a little like tunnel vision.
and i've been avoiding social media a little
cause it's best to avoid anything that makes you
sad
instead of
happy...

things that have made me smile:

• beautiful editions of anne of green gables and i cannot wait for the new series coming out!
• what do when your partner (or someone you love) is having a panic attack
• the pep talk generator...cause sometimes...the world needs a small pep talk
• i am addicted to this tim hortons chicken bacon ranch wrap
• that coles bookstore has leuchtturm1917s for only 24.00!
• and speaking of addictions...please take this bag of sweet & salty popcorn away from me
• but...i am totally going to try this!
• i kind of can't wait for this...i will never like it more than the cartoon...but that still leaves room for me to love it
• IT'S ALMOST CHRISTMAS CARTOON/MOVIE SPECIAL TIME!!!!

this year....i am watching them ALL...all of them i say...
while eating bags and bags
of sweet & salty popcorn...
i have to make a list...and poll people for their favorites...
i don't want to miss anything!  :)

(not that this would be that odd coming
from the girl whose mother took her to the dr
