throwback thursday... ♥

January 27, 2022 Arlene Giddings

i have been writing this blog for a long time.

i like to go back and reread
different years for the month
we are currently in…
it’s a bittersweet exercise.
the kids were little when i
started this
and i thought my
happy marriage would last
forever and i never
thought i would get wrinkles
or a saggy neck…haha.

but life happens.

some of the posts make me
a little sad but mostly,
they make me happy…..
(and make me question my
sanity every now and then as well).

like when I made librarian shout YES
in a library…

this image without an image of my
boy at 10 made my heart warm…

and it’s my mom’s birthday on Saturday,
so this seems right…and I miss him. ♥

the truth is....

January 25, 2022 Arlene Giddings

the truth is
i can spend
156.00 dollars
on groceries
and come home
and make a
peanut butter
sandwich.

the truth is
i cut my own hair
recently…
3 times to be exact…
and am not sure
that was a
good thing.

the truth is
i realized today
that i own
a LOT of clothes
and the truth
also is
that i will likely never wear
most of those clothes
again if i won’t be in an
office setting…
which makes me
both happy (i love working from home)
and a little bit sad.

the truth is
i’m not sleeping well.
i’m sleeping a lot
but
not well.

the truth is
i don’t have
any more truths
to share
today.

Final roundup - Books - 2021

January 24, 2022 Arlene Giddings

The truth is
I didn’t hit my goal of 35 books
this year but I still read
more than I did
the year before (31)
so I am ok with that.

Here is a list of the last stragglers…

  • Their Perfect Match - Debbie Macomber
Honestly, this was painful. Not really my kind of thing.
    ♥ out of 5

  • Hillbilly Elegy - JD Vance
This was a bit of a tough, long read but worth it.
    ♥♥♥ out of 5

  • Feeding My Mother - Jann Arden
I had really, really been looking
forward to this one and it did not
    disappoint. Her writing is beautiful
and poignant and full of realness.
    Made laugh and cry…
    sometimes,
    at the same time.
    ♥♥♥♥♥ out of 5

  • The Midnight Library - Matt Haig
I loved this one. Big love.
    ♥♥♥♥♥ out of 5

  • If I Knew Then - Jann Arden
Another one that I was very excited about….
I am at that point where I am aware of my age
    and the changes and perceptions,
both mine and from other people
    and society as a whole,
    so I really enjoyed this.
    It made me think.
    ♥♥♥♥ out of 5

  • The Last Thing He Told Me - Laura Davis
A good way to catch my attention is
definitely to lead with an ee cummings poem..
I love, love, loved this book.
    Worth the hype
    ♥♥♥♥♥ out of 5

  • Didn’t See That Coming - Rachel Hollis
I don’t “love” Rachel Hollis but
it was a book about dealing
with the end of things you might not
    have seen ending
    and yeah…
    I can relate.
    ♥♥♥♥ out of 5

  • The Four Winds - Kristen Hannah
    I love Kristen Hannah….
I love everything by her…I find her
writing draws me in, makes me want to stay.
    I can’t lie. I didn’t want to stay in this book…
I loved the writing but I was
    exhausted and wrung out dry
by the time I was reading it…
so sad, so bleak, so desolate,
    at times so hopeless…
but given the subject, that was unavoidable.
    Definitely worth reading but
    not a light beach read.
    ♥♥♥♥ out of 5

And that takes me to 33 books for 2021!

I am going to keep my goal for 2022 at 35
since I didn’t quite hit it this year.

Happy reading!! :)

OH!! oh! Ohohohoh! (I might actually be clapping my hands right now)...

January 23, 2022 Arlene Giddings

I am pretty excited about this!
Last year was the year of ice cream
and dairy bars and all that sweet stuff
and I kept saying that this year’s
challenge would need to be
a little more focused on exercise
or activity to counteract…
and today I came across this:

The Island Walk

32 sections

700 kms!!

You get a passport & a
certificate of completion!!!
(and you know how I feel
about certificates of completion!!!)

I am seriously excited about this.
AND I have the bike now so I can incorporate that
into some of it…and maybe I might
even have some friends that I
convince to join me for
parts of it…

I love when something makes me
feel all butterfly-ish in my belly
and excited! :) :) :)

Now I am going to buy the book
and makes lists of what I will need
and maybe where I can stay
for parts of the journey
and what I will need to bring with me
and yay! :) This is fun already!

And if you have done anything like this before
or have any tips or advice,
please feel free to pass along!! ♥

(not going to lie…
the only thing I am really worried about
is coyotes….sigh.)
