tuesday truths at 10:30 pm....

May 29, 2018 Arlene Giddings

i should have done the dishes.
i should have changed the kitty litter.
i should have put some laundry in the machine.
i should have swept the tumbleweeds of cat fur
out of the corners of the living room.

but the sun was shining.

and the car was home.

and the gas tank was full.

so instead
i went looking for pretty light
and abandoned boats
and dirt roads...

and now my heart feels
satisfied and content
(but also can't wait to go again!)

getting into the spring of things...

April 28, 2018 Arlene Giddings

and suddenly,
it's spring.

the sun is shining,
the ice is melting
and my boots squish ankle deep
in mud
and i couldn't be happier.

spring is a game changer.

it's a whole new mindset.

it's a release
a reprieve
a cure for the winter blues
that you sometimes had
panic attacks
thinking would never come...
and then
one day you woke up
and it was here.

you gotta have a plan, stan...

March 17, 2018 Arlene Giddings

I think we all know that I love PEI...
and that I like to take random drives
with my camera and a healthy supply of diet coke
and candy...and sometimes doughnuts...
I usually go alone, sometimes with a friend...
and I usually end up documenting it here
or on my facebook page...

Last Saturday, I went to meet some friends
at the PEI Writer's Guild Winter Sociable
at Upstreet Craft Brewery
which was so much fun!

I stopped at Indigo beforehand
and bought a map of PEI.
The kid that rang me in said
"I hope you don't get lost"
as he handed me my map...
I said "The funny thing is
I have lived on PEI my whole life."

He looked puzzled.

"So...why are you buy a map then??
Do you have friends coming to visit?"

And I'm like "I want to drive EVERY road
on PEI and then use a highlighter to mark
what roads I have been on so I can keep track..."
at the same time thinking this sounds weird to say out loud.

He says "there's a facebook group for that!  Did you know
there's a waterfall on PEI??" and I'm like "I KNOWWWWWW!
I TOTALLY WANT TO FIND THAT!!!!"
and then I don't feel so weird anymore.

So.
I bought my map and I came home
and thumbtacked it to the wall.
I highlighted the roads I took to
and from Charlottetown that day
and decided that I am going to start fresh...
I know I have travelled a lot of the other roads
but I going to start highlighting them from
this point on.

This is slightly unrelated...but...
photos I took on the way down...
:)

winter-wonder-land

February 10, 2018 Arlene Giddings

I really wanted to go on a
friday adventure
yesterday
but, sadly, was without a car.

I'll admit...I felt a little pouty about it
when I first got out of bed
and saw that the sun was shining.
I looked out my bedroom window
and could see the sun shining bright through
the ice covered trees.

Ice covered trees?

That I could see from my window?

I jammed on a pair of jeans over my leggings,
threw on some fuzzy socks and purple docs
grabbed my camera and headed out the door
down to the park at the end of my street
and no word of lie...
it was like walking into another dimension...
like something out of a fairy tale.

i am not sure why...but i seem to have developed a slightly crazed looking selfie face.

Twinkly tiny fairy lights EVERYWHERE....
as far as the eye could see
against yellow, reds and greens...
with black branch silhouettes.

I stayed there til my hands were too cold
to shoot anymore and I'm pretty sure
tears were freezing in my eyelashes...
the park was empty...
just me and my camera.
The only sound was the shutter clicking
and the crunching of my boots
through snow that has no footsteps yet.

What a great way to start my weekend.
