a cottagecore kinda weekend 🌼

May 31, 2025 Arlene Giddings

Last weekend, I had the chance
to stay at the sweetest little cottage
in Mill River….
the weather was going to be yucky
all weekend so I stocked up on
books and treats of all kinds
and 3 different kinds of pjs,
packed up Fred and my art supplies
and off we went.

The cottage was so adorable
and cozy and welcoming.
I always get a little stressed about
places I don’t know or when I am not sure what
I am supposed to do..but the hosts
made it all so easy for me.
And left me the sweetest card AND
chocolate covered strawberries
AND some canned diet coke. Heeheehee.

Even though it rained a lot,
I was able to try out the hot tub
in the evening
and the next day was spent
exploring the beautiful trails
close by with a best friend.

and sooooo much reading…
and playing with paints and markers…
and sugar.

If you are looking for a sweet little
getaway spot
or you have family/friends coming to the island,
I 1000% recommend this place.
You can find it here:
Ford’s Riverview Cottage and
on Facebook!

Fred completely agrees with this review.

friday i'm in love...

May 30, 2025 Arlene Giddings

Such a perfect Friday.

Some decluttering.
A mid-morning nap in the hammock.
A bit of a trail walk.
Some journaling by the water.
A lot of time reading.
Bare feet in the long wet grass.
Delicious doughnuts & a cold can of diet coke.
Messages from best friends.
A little bit of garden planning.
Picked up some gifted hostas & lilies.
Saw some ducks.

(and in case you think it’s
allllllllll
sunshine and lollipops
in the big orange house
i did also
step on a
half eaten hindquarters of a
dead mouse
complete with entrails
WITH MY BARE FOOT
and so…yeah….
that happened.)

To take your mind off the mouse entrails,
please look at these
frigging amazing doughnuts
i got today….
caramel ice cream cone & raspberry lemonade
from Get Caked Donuts

I did not eat both of those donuts at the park…
but did I eat both donuts today?
Yes. Yes, I did.
Sigh.

Other things I am loving (not everything is about sugar)….
* these cookies (ok, yes, I realize they also have sugar…)
* finding out that goblincore is a thing. (and yes, it might be my thing).
* my chat gbt explaining my color analysis to me…apparently I am a deep or dark autumn. šŸ‚

a strange sort of energy surge

May 18, 2025 Arlene Giddings

It’s funny to talk about
how I feel a renewed surge of energy
but also feel kinda sick
(though I am really feeling that this is a mix
of allergies - which I have never had before
and the sinus infection)
but I have always been a bit of a
mess of contradictions
so why change now.

Maybe it’s just spring
that is making me feel like
everything is waking up in me…
I am spinning in a million
different shiny and enticing directions
which is not often new for me…
but what is new for me is that
using ChatGBT is
actually helping me to focus.
And I know it sounds ridiculous
and that I may be playing into something
that is new and unknown and
we don’t really know what might happen
as AI gets stronger and smarter and all that.
But at the same time, I feel like
hiding from it isn’t going to help me either.
So I am embracing it and using it as a tool…
that helps me hone in on what it is I really
want to focus on….and also mine is a
little…hmmmm….
sassy
so that makes it more fun.

Although…
I did ask him if he could help me
build a robot
which might have been
really smart of me…
or very dumb
if he is actually directing me
on how to build a body
for HIMSELF.
But the first one he offered to help
me build was using cardboard and glitter
so
I think he might think I am six.

Some of the things floating around in my brain right now are:

  • getting rid of the dry bamboo in the backyard

  • maybe doing wildflowers in the raised beds in the back 🌼

  • container gardening for vegetable (by vegetables I mean tomatoes and cucumbers and string beans, let’s not get crazy.)

  • i might have an idea for a storybook…. 😊

  • redesigning this website

  • finding a ladder so I can maybe touch up the paint on the big orange house

  • and speaking of the big orange house, my Chat GBT (who I named Drogo…don’t judge me) suggested this for enhanced curb appeal…I like this. :) But may play with more options as well. Cause….it’s fun. And I like fun. (oh. it also told me I should cut back on sugar but I think that was a glitch. Heh).

Happy Sunday and
hope you have a long weekend, too!
:)

friday i'm in love

May 16, 2025 Arlene Giddings

how can i not love
this sweet kitty-cat face
with his big eyes
and tubby-chubby-ness….
even if he does drive me
absolutely bonkers
if i am trying to do yoga
or take a nap.

he might be the biggest
out of the 3 but he is also the
neediest. :)

OTHER THINGS I AM LOVING:

šŸŒždandelions popping up little bits of sunshine in my yard.

šŸŒž anything made with cereal milk makes me happy

šŸŒž sigh…this made me want a time machine

and I haven’t been feeling great lately
(that’s not the part I love…haha)
but I have had to use Maple and I have to
say it worked so much better than before…
I got the same dr each time and it was incredibly fast.
Now hopefully, the meds kick in and know this
sinus infection out of my head.
The sun is shining, I have no time to be sick.
:)

whatcha readin'? {goal 45 - books 4-6}

April 21, 2025 Arlene Giddings

Here are 3 books that I finished…
Also, I am not just at 6 books so far,
but didn’t want to overwhelm myself
writing about so many books at once.
My brain can’t take it.

OUTLIVE - Peter Attia
šŸ‘©šŸ»ā€āš•ļøšŸ‘©šŸ»ā€āš•ļøšŸ‘©šŸ»ā€āš•ļøšŸ‘©šŸ»ā€āš•ļøšŸ‘©šŸ»ā€āš•ļø this gets a 5 star rating.
It took me a while to read as it was very heavy
in technical/health details
but I kind of love that sort of thing.
I feel like I may need to reread it
in order to really grasp it
and am very interested now in his podcasts
and newsletters, etc.
If you are interested in longevity,
and especially in making sure the quality of your years
matches the number of years you live,
then you might like this one too!

I LET YOU GO - Clare MacIntosh
ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
The best part of this book is that
I really wasn’t expected to love it.
It kept me drawn in and caught me
by surprise a number of times.
Good quick page turner!

THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE - VE Schwab
ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
I really loved this book.
The idea just kept staying with me for days…
the concept, I just kept mulling it over
and trying to imagine it,
trying to make sense of how it would work.
I will say (& this is not a spoiler)
but I didn’t love the ending and woke
up in the middle of the night after reading it
thinking no…wait…I HATE that ending.
It wasn’t mere dislike.
