tuesday truths...

April 19, 2016 Arlene Giddings
  1. winter always drags me down
but spring always manages to pick me back up again.
just a little milder and brighter out
and already i am feeling less "nest-y"
(you know...where you just want pajamas & books & candles & movies & blanket forts)
    and more excited...this is when
i start to get all full of plans and ideas and lists and intentions and goals and changes...
my pinterest boards get a lot of use at this time of year.
and my husband gets a lot of links sent to him, heehee.

  2. keeping with the new ideas and change theme,
i am trying to decide whether or not
i should just take the plunge and move all of my "stuff"
into one area in our living room...
i have a corner in the living room where i edit
and lately i have also set up a bit of a makeshift desk
    and bookcase...
i have a great space upstairs but I NEVER USE IT.
i hate being away from everyone.
our living room is the hub of the house really...
we are usually all in the living room working on different things
(or, face it, watching tv or falling asleep on the couch)
but i love that we are always within earshot of each other...
but the downside to moving all my "stuff" downstairs
is that i worry that a) people will think i am crazy and b) visiting kids
may want to touch or (i shudder to think) PLAY with my stuff...

is that not the saddest thing you have EVER heard.

  3. i don't really have anything to say for point number 3 but
i just didn't want to end on that note...
you know, the note where i seem like i might not like kids...
cause i do, i really do...i just get weird about my...stuff...
and most of it is toys...so...you know...anyway...by trying not
to end on that note, i am now ending on it again
and will have to add something random for point number 4.

  4. i still love what does the fox say.

tuesday truth on a sunday...

April 10, 2016 Arlene Giddings

and yeah....this has nothing to do with this post...it's just a pretty sunset at the end of my street...:)

so...if you know me at all,
you will know that i like to play games
when i am doing some kind of
menial or repetitive task...

like dishes.

we don't have a dishwasher...never have....
i do a lot of dishes by hand.
i play this game
where all of the dishes go in the soapy water
but my goal is get all the plates in the dish dryer
before the bowls...
(cause they are easier to stack that way)
but
i can't dig around and find the plates in the soapy water
i have to take the first thing i touch.
and same idea when i take it out of the rinse water...
i can see what i am taking there
but i can't take it if it's under another dish.
aaaaaand
there are a bunch of other rules
but i don't think you need any more detail
to think i might slightly losing it
(i have done this for years actually...years.)

so now with the fitbit,
i am doing a different game.
i used to have a little game for putting away laundry
but now i have incorporated the fitbit...
i play music really loud and dance while putting away the laundry...
but if i put something in the bottom drawer of my dresser,
then i do like 15 jumping jacks or squats or something...
same thing when i empty a basket...
and so far...it's working!
i'm hitting my step goal
AND all of my laundry is getting put away!
now...if only it would make my clothes fit better.

tuesdays truths

  • i ate a yellow tomato...and i liked it!
  • i have started taking a multi-vitamin.
  • sometimes i fear that i am never going to lose weight,
no matter how many steps i get on my fitbit.
  • i am getting impatient for spring.
  • part of me wants to cut out diet coke...but a
bigger part of me wants to cut it out but not stop drinking it...
    it's a puzzle i can't finish.
  • i just realized april is national poetry month & i have not blogged
    about it at all.
  • i also just realized though, that by posting this blog, i will have
technically blogged about april being national poetry month.  Yay me!
  • my dryer is making a high pitched squeaking noise.
  • i hate high pitched squeaky noises more than i hate turnip...
    and that's a lot.
  • the cats are obsessed by the wrong kind of mouse...they are
    obsessed with the computer.
  • i have decided i am going to pay to get my hair colored (and if you
know me, you know that i am notoriously cheap and normally do it myself,
which usually results in a poorly done job AND a ginormous mess) and i
have decided to leave one silver (i'm choosing to call it silver...really...it's gray
but...tomato/to-mah-to...silver sounds cooler...like a rock star or a super hero!)
    streak in my bangs.

tuesday truths...

March 22, 2016 Arlene Giddings

i would like to say that i have not been here
very much lately
because i won the lottery
and have been
busy buying myself a gravel pit
and a candy store all of my own...

but the truth is
the stupid flu found me last tuesday
and is just barely letting me
out of it's feverish hacking grasp now...

a couple of realizations while sick:

  • being sick as an adult sucks.  nothing stops...the clock keeps ticking, the to do list keeps growing
  • popsicles are still awesome
  • listening to an audio book is a great way to distract yourself from a pounding headache...especially when that audio book is the graveyard book by neil gaiman...read by neil gaiman!  now...i should explain here that i didn't actually have the audio book and so was listening to it on youtube and, because i was drifting in and out of sleep and slightly feverish, i didn't realize until HOURS into it, that the sequence of youtube videos was not in the correct order...and yet, i was still totally enthralled in the book!  :)  i am totally putting this (and every other book by neil gaiman on my list of things to read).
  • i think i must seriously be a 9 year old when sick...i had thought the graveyard book was the one thing that i listened to that wasn't for kids...but i just realized as i searched for the link, that it IS a kid's book.  i also listened to "how to train your dragon"...watched the first season of the muppets...watched kung fu panda (jack black never disappoints) and minions and the flintstones...
  • and, as sucky it was that S. caught my flu a couple of days later, i can say for sure that if i had to be sick with anybody...i'm glad that it's with him.  :)

but the real truth is
catching the flu sucks
but it definitely makes you realize
how easy it is to take
life, and your health,
for granted...
it's always good to have a little reminder.
{but next time, flu, maybe just remind me for
a day or 3....i don't really need a 7 day lesson...}

not really related...but really...how cute is she?  <3

tuesday truths {nablopomo day 17}

November 17, 2015 Arlene Giddings

1.  i jumped out of my car, left the door wide open and the car running as i ran down to the water to snap this photo of the tail end of a hot pink sunset.

2.  last night was "disc burning night", today was "disc delivery day"...and i have to tell you that meeting with one of my couples from this summer made my day...they are sooooo incredibly sweet...and funny....and did i say sweet?!  I couldn't have picked a better wedding to have gotten lost AND have fallen flat on my back for no apparent reason at.  They are seriously super fantastic and it's couples like that, that make me love doing weddings.  <3AND they gave ME a thank you card...with the cutest, lemon-scented cat car air fresheners...heeheehee...(which fits well since when we did their engagement pictures, we went to the their house so we could include the cat...when we did the wedding photos, we stopped by the house...so we could include the cat...my kinda people).

AND it's lemon scented :)  my favorite!

3.  can i just say how much i am loving editing my brother's wedding photos...i go in a specific order and it makes me so happy when his pop back into the queue.  I love all my weddings but this one holds a little special corner of my heart obviously.  Today we got to the kiss....<3

cause THIS is how we do when you are from muddycrick :)
