tuesday truths...

May 1, 2018 Arlene Giddings

******
after using the same format
in my bullet journal for about the
past two years,
i have decided to make a change.
i need it to be
less formal
and more spur-of-the-moment.
it's a work in progress.
i'm still not really sure what i want to do with it
but the photo above is my
May cover page...
which i was pretty happy with....
because...

******
i love lilac season!
and it's almost here!!
the little lilac bush i planted
in the backyard last summer
has some bright green little buds on it
so yay!
i didn't kill it!
(yet)

******
i love the little signs of spring...
lighter jackets,
open windows (even if only for a short period of time),
sunshine waking me up
in the morning
and the day staying brighter
for so much longer...
i feel like i can breathe again.

tuesday truths

March 27, 2018 Arlene Giddings

♥♥♥
this morning
the world looked like
something you see
in a picture book
about a magical land of winter and
glittery shiny ice...
veiled in a thick fog
with the sun trying to burst through.

i grabbed my phone (no camera with me, boo)
and went for a quick and somewhat cold walk
mesmerized by the bright white of the trees
and the frost covered weeds...
it was perfect.

the air smelled like woodsmoke
and faint exhaust fumes
(which, if you know me, you will know i
love the smell of exhaust fumes
almost as much as the smell of woodsmoke).
it was perfect.

i climbed a snowbank
in my work skirt and purple docs
so that i could take the photo of the
two perfect rows of trees above...
it was worth the possible humiliation
of falling off the bank into the middle of Duke street
on a busy Tuesday morning.

on the walk back, my hands tingled
and i got little chunks of road salt
stuck in my docs
and my eyes watered from the cold
and still...
it was perfect.

♥♥♥
i popped into the liquor store
to pick up some cold shots
for my husband today.

somehow
i got my thumb
stuck in the box.

"well...that's a first"
the cashier said as
she helped me wrench the box
off my hand.

she thought maybe it was a flaw in the
packaging.
i suspect, however, it was just me.
:)

sometimes you are just so happy...
those are very, very good days.

♥♥♥
i know i want winter
to be over
but if it's going to storm
can we at least make it a good one?
one that shuts the town down
and rages all day
so there is no wondering
if you have to be somewhere...
because there is no where to be.

♥♥♥
i love pajamas.
and fuzzy socks.

♥♥♥
no name storm chips
are just as good
as brand name storm chips.

my boy is back from the big city
and i couldn't be happier...
or prouder.

there is a lot more i could say here
but i don't want to embarrass him...
:)

♥♥♥
literally
every time
i do a "tuesday truths"
i have to stop and think
wait...today IS tuesday, right?
every
frigging
tuesday.

that never happens to me on a friday.

♥♥♥
i bought some of these tonight...
i'm excited to try it.
the other flavors didn't really appeal to me...
blood orange?
what the hell is a blood orange?
like...is that a real thing?
um...not in my fridge.
which reminds me
i really need to clean out my fridge
and get groceries...
right now, i'm pretty sure all i've got in there
is hamburger far past the expiration date
(well...who can tell...it was frozen at some point
and then i defrosted it but i can't remember when
but i suspect it should not be eaten now
even if i do have an iron stomach as some would suggest)
and a head of cabbage
(and if you follow me on facebook,
which you should because i'm pretty amusing...
or annoying...i'm not sure which adjective is normally used..
anyway, if you follow me on fb,
you would have already read about the-great-cabbage-cauliflower-confusion).

wow.
did i just spin that far off topic.
that's gotta be a record.

♥♥♥
have you watched
everything sucks
if you haven't, you really, really should.
when have i steered you wrong?
i have great taste.
plus it has an awesome soundtrack.

just make sure you watch at least where
they make the oasis video...
that. part. literally. killed. me.
(plus i have a bit of a soft spot for that song
since it was the first song that my girl
learned all the words to...when she was like 2...
sigh....did someone make that damn time machine yet)

wow.  i'm really off track tonight.
:)
it must be tuesday.
(right?  it IS tuesday...right?)

edited to add...i realize i may not actually
know what an adjective is anymore so
if i have gotten that wrong, please forgive me...
it is tuesday, after all.

(right? it is..nevermind)

tuesday truths...

February 20, 2018 Arlene Giddings

■
I just realized there is no diet coke in the house.
None.

■
My hip hurts.  My hip has never hurt before.
I am not liking it.

■
I went to a writing group on Saturday.
This was my second time going.
I think this is exactly what I need in order to make myself
actually sit down and work on something...
I need that accountability.
And it is obviously not working to pretend that
I will hold myself accountable
because apparently, I have a very soft heart
that believes every sob story excuse I tell myself.

And the great thing about this month's session
was that I admitted up front
that, while this was the start of a story,
there is a very good chance
that I will never finish it
because I have never finished ANYTHING in my life.
They kindly pointed out that I had indeed finished the story
that I shared the week before
but...that was like
1900 words.
That kind of story I can handle.
A snippet.  A page or two.  A scene.  A scenario.
It's putting a bunch of those together
and calling it a cohesive story that I struggle with.
But after I read the group my story about Bernadine,
they told me I had to write more
because they wanted to know
what was going to happen next...
(and...to be honest...so do I!)
and that they would be expecting to hear more
at next writing group.
:)
