#tbt the black and white edition

it's throwback thursday...
and this one that goes way back.

this is my mom
and my uncle emmett...
this photo ab-so-lute-ly kills me.
i look at it and i want to crawl into it,
i want to know how old she was,
how old he was,
what were they thinking, where were they going.

i look at the way she is holding his hand
and that little striped shirt and skirt over leggings
and my heart just melts into a
messy little black and white puddle
on the floor.

if you knew him, you knew that
on the outside, he was gruff and tough
and cursed like a sailor
and LOVED to say inappropriate things
just to make you mad
but that he was also
sweet and soft and caring...
when i think of him,
i remember his big laugh, his booming voice
"Bones!" he would call my mom "Bones, c'mon over here!"
he used to drive by my garden in the summer and
then call me to tell me what I should
do to keep the birds from eating the
tiny seeds and pulling out
my string beans...

this is not what i intended to write
when i came here...
but the way he is holding her hand...
well...what else could i write?

grateful...

it's thanksgiving weekend here
and i feel that i have plenty to feel grateful for:

  • an amazing little family that gets along and laughs...a lot... :)
  • a fantastic extended family...parents, sibling, in-laws, nieces & nephews
  • a job that i go to five days a week that i love...and great people to work with!
  • a second job that feeds my creative side...maybe a little too well sometimes but it's all good!
  • my beautiful little island in the fall {and every other season really...i love them all..even the dreaded winter}
  • the pug...(and the fact that the pug is about to have new semi siblings...KITTENS!!) (more about them later!)
  • old friends that have know me forever and still love me...and new friends in the making...
  • my fantastic clients and photography friends and supporters...this wouldn't be NEARLY as much fun without any of you!!!
  • the ability and opportunity and freedom to vote, to maybe help make a difference
  • the first season of Roseanne is on Netflix
  • new presets (thank you Pretty Presets!)
  • cold diet coke in a can (cause sometimes...its just the little things)

there is much more more that i could say i'm grateful for
but right now, my eyelids are drooping from turkey overload...
and my bed is calling me with it's siren song of a warm duvet
and maybe a heating pad...(more things that i'm grateful for).

baby bumps...so very cute!

I had privilege of shooting Rachel & Tyler's wedding
a couple of summers ago...
and it was so much fun.
They are seriously adorable and
so easy-going and down to earth.
I was thrilled when they asked me
if I would do their maternity photos for them!
OF COURSE I WOULD!!
:)

Here are some of my favorites from that day...

can't wait to meet this little bundle!  :)

Why I loved friday...

I had work-lunch yesterday with a best friend. ..

came home at 3:30 & went for a walk...everything was so pretty...green grass, flowers, brilliant blue sky...it was like seeing the world through a view-master...
sharp and crisp and utterly vivid.

As I walked, I realized the "olde-fashioned carnival" was today..but I was dressed for walking and so I went home.

I jokingly said to my 15 year old son and his friend
"we should go to the olde fashioned carnival"
expecting them to say "not likely".
It was Friday night after all...and they are 15 after all...

but they said yes.
and even when I said "we might have to walk cause I don't know where to park"...
15 said..."it's nice out anyway...why would we take the car".

so we took the pug and went to the olde fashioned carnival
where it was a nickel a game
and we got our fill of hotdogs, lemonade and caramel dipped apples.
(and can i just say, i never thought of using caramel sundae sauce to dip apple slices...so good!)

we ran into some friends and family...
pugsley was a total star
(and he also managed to eat popcorn, apple slices and a RANDOM HARD BOILED EGG...including the shell)

the funny thing is...i don't think they have any idea
how much it meant to me
that they so easily said yes to hanging out with me on a friday night...
but...every time i think about it, i have to smile.
it's a good feeling.
