wow.

September 1, 2024 Arlene Giddings

this
has been an amazing summer…
like
seriously amazing.

which is hard for me to say
on one hand
because i missed my dad
ferociously
and that caused a lot of
confusing push/pull of emotions
but i assume that is to be expected…
you know you can’t stay where you were
but it’s effing hard to move forward.

the one thing
that does make it tolerable…
or at least helps make it all make
a tiny bit of sense
is knowing that
dad
would have loved hearing
about everything that happened this summer.

that i know for sure….
i know he is cheering me on…as he always has…
pushing me to go and do the things…
ALL the things.

so i did them.

beaches, bonfires, fireworks,
doughnuts, kruffins, ice cream sundaes,
billy idol!!
grew tomatoes, bought a swing,
went to the air show not just once, but twice!!
FINALLY replaced my front door,
climbed every big rock that was in my path,
watched meteor showers,
laughed hard and loud,
sang songs with lines that made me think of him,
told stories about him every
chance i got,
said yes to motorcycle rides
and got to sit in a transfer truck,
looked for sunflower fields, kayaked,
and watched the truck and tractor pulls…

it was an amazing summer…
and it’s not even over yet.

but it is september so
that brings me back to the blog
and to the little blue desk
back to making lists and plans,
blueprints and notes,
scribbles and scrabbles…

i was away from here for a long time…
but
it feels good to be back.

a little mini-stay-cation

July 3, 2022 Arlene Giddings

I have been off since last Thursday…
and I feel like I have made the most of those days.

Supper with the girls
at Island Stone Pub Wednesday night…
beach day with an old friend
Thursday in Cavendish
then supper on the boardwalk
at Poutine Plus where
I got to see some old friends
that always makes me happy
and an adorable little 3 year old came
and sat with us to eat her food…
then a walk on the Summerside boardwalk
to finish off the day…

Friday was Canada Day
and I was sunburned and
kinda missing how when the
kids were little
and we’d all spend Canada Day
together…
but I decided to do the
Homestead Trail in Cavendish
with the additional MacNeill Loop
so…10 kms.
I had a little rest/nap on one
of the benches partway through…
heh.

Friday night was fireworks
in Charlottetown…
which I think I might have sat
directly UNDERNEATH…
but still pretty enjoyable
plus I got to hear Fabulously Rich
and glad that I went
even if I went all by myself….

Saturday was trying out the new
car tent…which I love!
Attempting a walk but the
thunder rolled in
so spent some time at a beach
reading and eating fresh strawberries…
Saturday night, I went to the
movies all by myself to see
the new Minions movie in 3D…
and I am so glad I pushed out of
my comfort zone to do that.

Sunday was spent
early morning setting up
at the beach with
my little beach tent
and a radio
and a book…
some friends came by
and hung out for a bit
just before another
thunder storm rolled in…
I got the tent down literally
just - in - the - nick - of - time.

And I still have one day of vacation left :)

how does your garden grow…

I actually took these
photos a couple of weeks ago…
it is looking even bigger now
plus, thanks to a good friend,
I was able to add 4 more deck tomato plants.

The cucumber plants are actually
way bigger now.
Next year, I would like to try to
make something cute
that will also keep them up a bit
but now, I am just trying to “train”
them to grow around the bamboo.

Sadly, my string bean plants
were eaten in infancy
by some heartless monster…
or possibly slugs?
I don’t know.
But I am going to try replanting some…
I do have a couple that might give me
few string beans
but
I WANT A LOT!

heehee.

This is the path I take
countless times a day
to water the garden
(the hose won’t reach
AND it leaks
so I have to use a watering can)
and to check on its progress
multiple times a day…

At some point,
I would like to put a real path
in here
with some cute stones
but not sure that
is going to happen this summer.

Good intentions though.
That counts, I think.
Heehee.

a rare sunday adventure....

August 25, 2019 Arlene Giddings

i had big plans for today
but then
i stayed up too late last night
and overslept this morning
and thought it was ruined….

but it wasn’t!

i had such a fantastic day…
there was a truck convoy for Special Olympics
starting at 10 am
and i was sure i was going to be too late
but i was JUST in time.

and this adorable little toddler
picked me bouquets of weeds and flowers
and sat beside me for the whole thing
which guaranteed premium beep-age
by the big trucks going by.
:)

i had heard great things about the
queen street open market on sundays
so headed there for that next…
it was fantasic…so many great vendors…
i bought string beans and chocolate chip cookies
and cinnamon rolls with BACON in them….

but….
then i went to the Confederation Center Art Galley
specifically
to see this one exhibit…
and it did not disappoint.

it literally took my breath away.

i spent at least half an hour
just lost in the details
and colors and reflected light
the mesmerizing suspension
and gently swaying, spinning silence.

sigh.

i need this in my house.

i regretted not taking my big camera in…
and also,
these crows still make me feel sad…

and to top the day off,
i hung out with a friend in the park
discussing cameras & ice cream & 80’s movies
AND tried the new purple haze flavor at Truckin Roll….
which was sooooooo pretty…
(i am not going to lie though…i didn’t love the tea part of it…
but the rest was delicious!!)

and these were just pretty……

there is seriously so much to do here…
i am feeling panicky trying to jam as much of it in as
i can before the snow flies and
the pajamas become my standard uniform again.
:)
