the search for the PERFECT ADVENTURE BACKPACK.....

May 25, 2023 Arlene Giddings

i was all prepared
for a wordless wednesday post
but then
i realized
it’s actually thursday
(and technically,
it’s kinda my friday
since i am off tomorrow.)
:)

it’s a rainy, cool evening
and i am determined to find
the
PERFECT ADVENTURE BACKPACK.

this has been on my list
of things to do for months.

here’s the thing.
it needs to be cute
but functional….
can be worn with jeans
or a dress….
but doesn’t hurt my shoulders…
and it needs to carry:
- a journal/notebook
- a small pencil case (possibly 2)
- an emergency can of diet coke
- sunscreen
- candy
- bug spray
- lip smacker (root beer flavor)
- a snack
- car keys
- my phone
- a handful of smurfs
- coyote spray (& that needs to be easily accessible)
- headphones
- my wallet or at least my debit card…

this has been wayyyyyy harder than
i anticipated.
i have literally been looking for
MONTHS.

the perfect backpack is out there
waiting for me,
i just know it.

maybe tonight’s my night.

{{also i just realized that
i have literally put THIS much more energy
into finding the perfect backpack
than I ever have in dating
or finding a relationship…
heh.
not even gonna analyze that….}}

a weekend in november...

November 12, 2022 Arlene Giddings

i love weekends.

i am trying to get outside more…
and to keep getting outside
once the weather changes.

this weekend has been rainy
but mild.
the colors are still vivid,
with flowers still blooming
and fields still green…
it’s odd for November
but I have been taking advantage of the temps
to get outside.

yesterday was a trail
through the woods,
today i did the boardwalk and watched
the fog roll in off the water…
my only company
the thoughts in my head…
i like that because it gives me
time to think about what i might
like to do creatively…
i jot ideas onto my notes app
on my phone as i walk
and come home
fresh faced
and inspired.

i feel like i have been
full of ideas lately
and there is a small chance
i may be putting too much
on my plate
once again….
but at the moment
it’s all just exciting
and fun and promising.

Happy weekend! :)

a little mini-stay-cation

July 3, 2022 Arlene Giddings

I have been off since last Thursday…
and I feel like I have made the most of those days.

Supper with the girls
at Island Stone Pub Wednesday night…
beach day with an old friend
Thursday in Cavendish
then supper on the boardwalk
at Poutine Plus where
I got to see some old friends
that always makes me happy
and an adorable little 3 year old came
and sat with us to eat her food…
then a walk on the Summerside boardwalk
to finish off the day…

Friday was Canada Day
and I was sunburned and
kinda missing how when the
kids were little
and we’d all spend Canada Day
together…
but I decided to do the
Homestead Trail in Cavendish
with the additional MacNeill Loop
so…10 kms.
I had a little rest/nap on one
of the benches partway through…
heh.

Friday night was fireworks
in Charlottetown…
which I think I might have sat
directly UNDERNEATH…
but still pretty enjoyable
plus I got to hear Fabulously Rich
and glad that I went
even if I went all by myself….

Saturday was trying out the new
car tent…which I love!
Attempting a walk but the
thunder rolled in
so spent some time at a beach
reading and eating fresh strawberries…
Saturday night, I went to the
movies all by myself to see
the new Minions movie in 3D…
and I am so glad I pushed out of
my comfort zone to do that.

Sunday was spent
early morning setting up
at the beach with
my little beach tent
and a radio
and a book…
some friends came by
and hung out for a bit
just before another
thunder storm rolled in…
I got the tent down literally
just - in - the - nick - of - time.

And I still have one day of vacation left :)

sundaze....

February 20, 2022 Arlene Giddings

It’s been a quiet week here
in the big orange house…
another possible COVID contact
(but all negative here),
a failed attempt at seeing
Spiderman in 3D
(it was sold out),
warm chocolate chip muffins,
pizza from Dino’s (so good)
while watching this movie
with my girl
which made us both laugh so hard…
definitely worth watching…
some painting,
some daydreaming
about garden planning and
building she sheds and playhouses
in the back yard…
two visits with BFFs,
and a failed sump pump attempt
that resulted in not a lot of water
going outside,
but onto me instead.

All in all, a good week.
The days are getting longer and brighter
and that is a very good thing.

IN THE BIG ORANGE HOUSE:

WATCHING: The Act; Million Little Things; spiderman; Inventing Anna

READING: Anxious People - Fredrik Backman

LISTENING TO: Shoulda Known Better - Amos Lee

EATING: cinnamon hearts

GRATEFUL: the days are getting longer, the water was not
too bad in the basement, for soft, fleecy, warm leggings,
for Pugsley’s snoring, for teeny tiny pink flowers,
for longer days and more light in my life.

how does your garden grow…

I actually took these
photos a couple of weeks ago…
it is looking even bigger now
plus, thanks to a good friend,
I was able to add 4 more deck tomato plants.

The cucumber plants are actually
way bigger now.
Next year, I would like to try to
make something cute
that will also keep them up a bit
but now, I am just trying to “train”
them to grow around the bamboo.

Sadly, my string bean plants
were eaten in infancy
by some heartless monster…
or possibly slugs?
I don’t know.
But I am going to try replanting some…
I do have a couple that might give me
few string beans
but
I WANT A LOT!

heehee.

This is the path I take
countless times a day
to water the garden
(the hose won’t reach
AND it leaks
so I have to use a watering can)
and to check on its progress
multiple times a day…

At some point,
I would like to put a real path
in here
with some cute stones
but not sure that
is going to happen this summer.

Good intentions though.
That counts, I think.
Heehee.
